Why Buy Exotic Wood Flooring

When it comes to buying and installing exotic wood floors, most people prefer nowadays to purchase laminate floorings because they are the cheapest on the market. However, installing exotic wood flooring has always been a long time investment, so you should think well before choosing a cheap floor that deteriorates quickly instead of exotic hardwood floors that keep their beauty for generations.

3 reasons why you should choose exotic hardwood floors:

High hardness rating
If you’re a homeowner on a budget, you should choose exotic hardwood floors because they are more durable than other types of hardwoods. According to the US Forestry Lab, many exotic wood types have a high Janka Hardness Rating, which means that exotic hardwood floors require less special maintenance to keep their fine grains and lustrous beauty. Santos mahogany, Brazilian walnut, Brazilian teak and Tiete rosewood require thousands of pounds of pressure to be damaged, while the American cherry requires 950 pounds of pressure and the white pine about 380.

An excellent choice for high-traffic areas
– Brazilian cherry, known as Jatoba in Brazil because it’s not a true cherry, is a very good choice for floors exposed to lots of heavy use and foot traffic, making a better choice than the Australian hard cypress. It doesn’t give your rooms a rustic look as the cypress does, but is also less expensive per square foot – $3 to $8 – and is very durable.
– Hickory floors are extremely hard, a lot harder than oak; it adds a rustic air to the rooms due to a beautiful grain pattern, so it is a viable choice for creating a country style in an active household. It is recommended for foyers, living rooms, kitchens and hallways.
– Lyptus floors are a eucalyptus hybrid developed by a prestigious Brazilian corporation. Its fibrous grain patterns are similar to mahogany, but it’s significantly harder, a lot easier to mill and finish, less expensive – and it won’t dent in response to spiked heels and chair legs.

Water-resistant
Choosing exotic hardwood floors is not a simple luxury. They cost more, but despite their beauty, hardness and durability, they are water resistant, being suitable for areas where humidity is higher, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
– Tigerwood is an African native tree with a troubled history of deforestation and overharvesting, but it’s extremely hard and beautiful, as well as very resistant to increased levels of humidity.
Teak floor, used in shipbuilding for centuries, is the perfect choice for bathrooms and outdoor decks.
